I'm so excited to be bringing women together this weekend for a great cause. We're defying tradition this year on Mother's Day. I am hoping to reach women both locally and nationally (and if it reaches abroad, then great too!). This Mother's Day is a special time, and it's not just a day for mothers with earth children, but it's a special time for all women who are spiritual mothers. All of us. We will gather, celebrate, share, inspire, mentor, and fill our cups up. Let's shine together. I will be sharing two RISING GROUPS this Saturday and Sunday in celebration of Spiritual Mother's Day. Please look below for registration and how you can win a $50 natural care package just for you or someone you love!

Spiritual Mothers are those who help others, guide others, mentor others, and provide for others, but may not receive the thanks or credit they deserve on Mother's Day. They can be your doctors, your nurses, your teachers, your friends, your mother from another, or just someone you've met in the thick or the quiet days of your life. It's all of those women in your life who have helped to raise you, and this could be your earth mother or not. It's the women who fight the battles with you, who help you in dark times, and celebrate you in great times.
Our culture in the United States tends to be traditionalist, and if you go to a christian church, you may see even more of that with the catering to the husband/wife/children unit, and often to the great disrespect and snub of single women, single mothers, the divorced mother, or women who have mothered in ways that do not represent this unit, yet represent God's light. That's the last thing that we need as women on Mother's Day, so this year, we're going to make sure this is done right.
Christian churches often go by formula, which means that either you are being placated into the formula or you are being snubbed if you don't fit into it. It's kind of like high school, or grade school, or some place that makes you feel alone, out of the loop, out of the group, or less than. We don't want that on Mother's Day. We don't want pretending on Mother's Day. It belongs to women who wear so many hats, and many of them unnoticed and under appreciated.
God isn't a formula. In that, we need to go further (and discriminate less). Any woman who helps with the emotional, mental, spiritual, or physical needs of another is a spiritual mother, and yet many of these spiritual mothers are often forgotten. We know it takes a village to raise another, so it's time to honor the village of spiritual mothers!
The funny thing is, God doesn't care about your color, nationality, religion, or sexual orientation as a mother or spiritual mother. Many of those elements simply represent how non-traditional God really is. God simply cares about the love and life you have as spiritual mother. Are you healthy, are you thriving, are you living alive, can you share love? It's your ability to help guide and lift another that matters.
Christ was very progressive in ways that the christian church is not, so it's not surprising that the Holy Spirit and Christ would support all of these mothers regardless of what a traditionalist or patriarchal church does. When women are not on the stages and not making the key leadership decisions in a church or elsewhere, you know that the voice on Mother's Day is not going to be representative of the struggle women really face. So, on this Mother's Day, we will honor God the Mother, the mother who is often forgotten just as much as many types of mothers are also forgotten.
It's a celebration! It's a day for YOU. It's a wonderful time to honor all of the women who have played the role of guiding, helping, providing, loving, and spiritual growth in others' lives. It's also a time to honor those of you who have lost your mothers, those who are trying to have children, or those who have lost children. There's no reason for you to be lost in the crowd. So, this online gathering titled "THE BACKBONE; Spiritual Mothers" is for all of you to come gather and be celebrated for the wonderful women you are! What I hope happens here is that we'll open this up for the kind of support we all need as women on Mother's Day weekend so that we can fill our cups up and renew.
Here are a few pieces of scripture we'll talk about as we talk about Spiritual Mothers and their forgotten roles in the bible and in life, and why they are so important:
Is there God the Mother: YES!
Then God said, "Let US make mankind (womankind) in OUR image (female and male), in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother.
As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.
The man called his wife's name Eve, because she was the mother of all living.
And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth. And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on his head seven diadems. His tail swept down a third of the stars of heaven and cast them to the earth. And the dragon stood before the woman who was about to give birth, so that when she bore her child he might devour it. She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne..."
And when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. But the woman was given the two wings of a great eagle so that she might fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to the place where she is to be nourished for a time, and times, and half a time. The serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, to sweep her away with a flood. But the earth came to the help of the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed the river that the dragon had poured from his mouth. Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.
2 Timothy 1:5
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
