Christian Middle Church: Abiding
Hello All!
It's Jennifer here and I'm so glad to be back at teaching with you. I felt called today to do a short 20 minute video on the christian topic of Abiding, which means to be in connection or to dwell inside. There is a special piece of biblical scripture that I use in this from John 15:4 and it goes like this:
"Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me."
It's March 4, 2018 and the Parkland, FL school shooting happened on Valentine's Day. It's created a new movement of young people along with many of us adults to call for more adult behavior from adults, maturity in thinking, integrity, character, safety, and the kinds of changes in our society that reflect that we care, that we have hearts and use them, and that we hope to make this place better through our actions. These young kids realized that civil war is alive and well, and that they are survivors. Our times are filled with unrest, chaos, struggle, ever changing politics, and serious human flaws. We are struggling with the damaging effects of patriarchy in the church and elsewhere.
Movements like #MeToo and #TimesUp are pulling the silence from out under the rug. What we've struggled with alone is now plastered all over the media and the national and collective conversation. We're doing the hard work of transforming our society back into something we can believe in. It's a month of celebrating women, and making sure our voices are sure, grounding, important, and listened to.
So, all in all, it's a perfect time for talking about abiding, because it's time to embrace God's path and discern if you are connected to it or not. It helps us choose balance. This video will talk about concepts of homeostasis (natural states of balance), self-organization (ways to organize chaos into balance and order), and abiding in a down to earth way that you can apply to your life. I'll come at it from a female, feminine, Holy Spirit point of view, because that is what I do. I hope you'll enjoy it, comment here, and join a Rising Group soon so I can start to meet those of you who are interested in seeing God in a healthy way. Keep taking care of yourself and God bless!
